Az EÚSZ különleges jubileumi kongresszusa Eretriában

Alapításának hatvanadik évfordulóján az Európai Újságírók Szövetsége (EÚSZ) a közép-görögországi Eretriában október 26-tól október 30-ig rendezte meg jubileumi kongresszusát, amelyen a két legfontosabb tisztségviselőt, az elnököt és a főtitkárt ellenjelölt hiányában mindjárt az összejövetel első napján nagy többséggel választották újjá.

Újabb két évre elnök lett Saia Tsaousidou, a görög szekció vezetője, a főtitkári tisztséget pedig továbbra is Edward Steen, az osztrák tagozat munkatársa látja el. Változások a kisebb jelentőségű posztokon történtek: a három alelnök közül kettő a helyén maradt Javier Arribas (Spanyolország) és Tibor Maczak (Szlovákia), hozzájuk most harmadikként Giuseppe Jacobini (Olaszország) csatlakozik. Leköszönt a kincstárnoki tisztségről a munkáját több mint tíz éven át igen lelkiismeretesen ellátó Luigi Cobisi (Olaszország), helyébe Pat Humphreys (Nagy-Britannia) lépett. Családi és egyéb okokból az eddigieknél jóval kevesebb időt tud majd szentelni a szervezetnek William Horsley (Nagy-Britannia), aki nemcsak a médiaszabadsággal kapcsolatos szerteágazó teendőket látta el, hanem kiemelkedő mértékben járult hozzá ahhoz, hogy mára az EÚSZ a nemzetközi sajtóintézmények és a többi európai szervezet sokszínű társaságának immár elfogadott tagja. William Horsley mostantól csak az Európa Tanács-i kapcsolattartást látja el, a többi ehhez hasonló teendőt és a sajtószabadság képviseletével járó munkát a ciprusi Kyriakos Pieridis végzi majd. Az említetteken kívül új tagja még az EÚSZ nemzetközi vezető testületének (board) szervezetünk brüsszeli képviselője, aki mostantól GianPaolo Accordo (Franciaország) lesz a feladatait szintén jól ellátó Lieven Taillie (Belgium) helyett.

A különleges jelleg tehát mindjárt a kongresszus elején megmutatkozott, s úgy folytatódott, hogy az összejövetel harmadik, zárónapján köszöntötték a résztvevőket, és kívántak nekik sikeres tanácskozást a vendéglátók és a szponzorok – összesen tizennyolc szervezet, intézmény támogatta anyagilag a több tucatnyi külföldi és megannyi görög újságírót foglalkoztató nemzetközi összejövetelt, amelynek munkájában a Magyar Tagozat részéről Martin József elnök és Losonczi Lívia alelnök vett részt. Méltánylandó, hogy a hosszúra nyúlt, kényszerű szünet után a görög szekció vállalkozott a jubileumi összejövetel megszervezésére, s a vendéglátók jó szándékú igyekezetéhez kétség sem férhet, ám mind a szakmai tartalom közvetítésében, mind a nagyon látványosnak szánt turisztikai programok gyakorlati megvalósításában akadtak hiányosságok. A különleges jelleg megmutatkozott abban is, hogy túltervezettnek bizonyult három panel beiktatása, noha mind a három kiváló és magas szintű vitákat eredményezhetett volna: hiszen Közép-Görögország fejlesztése volt az első témája, a második a média szerepével és a dezinformációkkal foglalkozott az ukrajnai háborúban, végül a harmadik a sajtószabadsággal. Ám vitára vagy a hallottak megbeszélésére nem jutott idő, aminthogy a szervezetünk belső gondjainak megvitatása – egyebek között a magyar tagozat által feltett előzetes kérdések megválaszolása is – elmaradt. Személy szerint sajnáltam azt, hogy nagyon kevés szó esett az eltelt hatvan évről, noha ez a hat évtized korszakos változásokat hozott az európai földrészen, így alaposan átformálta az alapítók által megálmodott szervezetet is.

Ami a kísérő programokat illeti, a túltervezettség és helyenként a rögtönzés e téren is kísértett: a meglehetősen nagy távolságok is közrejátszottak abban, hogy a résztvevők viszonylag sok időt töltöttek a két buszban, s a helyszíneken jobbára kevés idő maradt a látványosságok alapos megtekintésére. E tekintetben sokan nem értettük, hogy a világhírű Delphiben miért csupán a múzeum meglátogatására maradt időnk, miért nem néztük meg a páratlannak mondott Apollón-szentély szabadtéri romjait.

Ám a felsorolt vagy éppen nem említett kritikai megjegyzések ellenére is nyugtázni kell a vendéglátók óriási igyekezetét és figyelmességét, rögzíteni illik, hogy elhangzott néhány valóban magas színvonalú előadás, s a múzeum Delphiben, a Parnasszus puszta látványa, a náci rémtettek megrendítő emléke Disztomóban vagy éppen a hitvalló Orosz Szent János tiszteletére épült ortodox templom sokféle és maradandó élményt szerzett a kongresszus résztvevőinek.

Összességében a négy napos összejövetel ismert tanulságokat kínál: egy ilyen tanácskozás természetes fóruma a szervezetünket feszítő gondok és belső ellentmondások nyílt megvitatásának – ez most kétségkívül elmaradt -, s általában is, a mégoly elmélyült előadások értékét számottevően növelik a tartalmas és szabad viták, ami nem mellesleg az európai gondolat lényege: az egymástól eltérő minőségek és törekvések sokféleségéből építkezik az integráció, amint egykor Robert Schuman megállapította. Az eretriai zsúfolt napokból bízvást levonható az a következtetés, hogy a kevesebb - ezúttal is több lett volna.
Van tehát mit megszívlelni a következő kongresszus szervezőinek; ennek helyéről és időpontjáról egyelőre nincs megállapodás.

Special Jubilee Congress of the Association of European Journalists in Eretria (Greece)

On the sixtieth anniversary of its founding, the Association of European Journalists (AEJ) held its jubilee congress in Eretria, central Greece, from October 26 to October 30, at which the two most important officials, the president and the secretary general, were re-elected with a large majority on the first day of the meeting in the absence of any opponent candidates.

Saia Tsaousidou, head of the Greek section, became president for another two years, while Edward Steen, a colleague of the Austrian section, continues to hold the position of general secretary. Changes took place in the positions of minor importance: two of the three vice-presidents, Javier Arribas (Spain) and Tibor Maczak (Slovakia), remained in place, with Giuseppe Jacobini (Italy) joining them as the third. Luigi Cobisi (Italy), who performed his work very conscientiously for more than ten years, resigned from the position of treasurer, and was replaced by Pat Humphreys (Great Britain). Due to family and other reasons, William Horsley (Great Britain) will be able to devote much less time to the organization than before; until now he has performed all tasks related to media freedom, and he has the lion’s share of the very fact that AEJ is now a highly evaluated member of the community of diverse international organisations. From now on, William Horsley will only take care of the contact with the Council of Europe, the other similar tasks and the work related to the representative of press freedom will be carried out by Cypriot Kyriakos Pieridis. In addition to the aforementioned, the new member of the international management body (board) of the AEJ is the representative of our organization in Brussels, who will now be Gian Paolo Accordo (France) instead of Lieven Taillie (Belgium), who also fulfilled his duties well.

The special nature of the congress was evident at the very beginning, and it continued as the hosts and sponsors greeted the participants on the third and final day of the meeting and wished them a successful conference - a total of eighteen organizations and institutions financially supported the international gathering, in its work took part dozens of foreign and many Greek journalists. The Board of the Hungarian Section was represented by the President József Martin and Vice President Lívia Losonczi. We should appreciate that the Greek section undertook the organization of the jubilee meeting after the long, forced break, and there can be no doubt about the well-intentioned efforts of the hosts, but there were shortcomings both in the transmission of the professional content and in the practical implementation of the tourist programs intended to be very spectacular. The special nature was also shown in the fact that the inauguration of three panels proved to be over-planned, although all three panels could have resulted in excellent and high-level discussions: since the first topic was the development of Central Greece, the second dealt with the role of the media and disinformation in the war in Ukraine, and finally the third one focused on press freedom. But there was almost no time for thorough debates or discussions, moreover the discussion of the internal problems of our organization - among other things, the answering of the preliminary questions asked by the Hungarian section - was missed. Personally, I regretted that very little was said about the past sixty years, even though these six decades brought epoch-making changes on the European continent, thus thoroughly reshaping our organization dreamed up by the founders.

As for the accompanying programs, over-planning and sometimes improvisation were haunting in this area as well: the rather long distances also contributed to the fact that the participants spent a relatively long time on the two buses, and there was probably little time left for a thorough viewing of the local attractions. In this regard, many of us did not understand why we only had time to visit the museum in the world-famous Delphi, and why we did not see the open-air ruins of the Apollo sanctuary, said to be unique all over the world.

But despite the listed or unmentioned critical comments, the enormous effort and attentiveness of the hosts must be acknowledged, it is appropriate to record that some really high-quality performances were given, and the museum in Delphi, the sheer sight of Parnass, the poignant memory of the Nazi terror victims in Distomo or the Orthodox church built in honor of St. John The Russian in Prokopi gave the participants of the congress a diverse and lasting experience, amazing personal involvements. All in all, the four-day meeting offers well-known lessons: European integration is built from the diversity of different qualities and aspirations, as Robert Schuman once stated, and influenced by robust and free discussions.

So the organizers of the next congress have something to take heart from; there is still no agreement on the place and time of this.
